Visa is implementing the "Cities of the Future" program in Belém, which features a series of mechanisms aimed at fostering innovation in various sectors of the economy in the cities where the program is implemented, such as public transportation.
Alongside other cities in Brazil like Campina Grande (PB) and Maringá (PR), Belém is the first city in the Amazon region selected for the program due to its significant interest in entrepreneurship development, potential for innovation and technology, and the high circulation of cash and payments in physical currency.
The program seeks to promote the transition to digital payments while advancing Belém's status as a smart city, establishing it as an urban reference point for the Amazon, Brazil, and the world. Smart cities are a global trend, and Belém cannot afford to be left behind.
Through the "Cities of the Future" Program, Visa and its partners aim to promote the following activities:
- Hackathon: A competition-style event to engage the innovation ecosystem, aimed at finding solutions to reduce the circulation of cash in the city.
- Inclusion of a local NGO in the Visa Causes program, where Visa donates to a chosen institution or cause for every payment made using a registered card.
- Educational campaign with Banco do Brasil and Bradesco clients, conveying messages that highlight the benefits of electronic payments for the city, its residents, and local businesses.
- Actions to expand card issuance and acceptance, promoted by partners such as Trigg, PagSeguro, and Stone.
