On April 28, the President of the United States considered canceling flights from Brazil destined for the U.S. During a press conference in the Oval Office at the White House, Donald Trump emphasized that "Brazil has practically an outbreak" of coronavirus, referencing the rising number of confirmed cases in the country. At the time, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis also expressed concern about Brazilians potentially infected with the new coronavirus arriving in Miami.

The concerns raised by U.S. authorities, which have left the civil aviation sector on edge amid an already challenging global scenario, directly impact international routes from Belém. Belém International Airport has two direct routes connecting Pará to Florida: Belém-Miami, operated by LATAM, and Belém-Fort Lauderdale, operated by Azul. Both routes could face permanent consequences.
In addition to direct flights to the U.S., Belém also offers international flights to Suriname (Belém-Paramaribo, operated by Surinam Airways and Gol), French Guiana (Belém-Cayenne, operated by Azul), and Portugal (Belém-Lisbon, operated by TAP).
All these routes have had their frequencies canceled. According to the Eastern Amazon aviation website UZ7 Spotting, here is the forecast for when international flights might resume in Belém:
